| These are actually called Visual Signal Model 17 Panel, or "VS-17 Panel" for short. They are used by Army Pathfinders and Air Force Combat Control Teams (CCT) to signal aircraft with or without radios. The orange side generally means "this is the place" or "this is me," whle the "red" side usually means "do not land here." I keep one on each vehicle that travels off-road for emergency identification needs. If you travel in remote locations this can really help rescuers find you when searching from the air or scanning the horizon for you with binoculars, as well as if you break down on the highways in winter storms. Aircraft flying overhead cannot help but check this out so even without a radio it attracts attention. You cannnot beat the price, they are very light weight and they stow away in very small places. |
